Darjeeling is one of the most charming hill towns in India. The pace of life here is so much slower than many parts of India. You can visit the tea fields and watch the world go by in a cafe. Visit the Tibetan village and commission a rug or just wander the back streets. It is also a good place to secure your permit if you are headed to Sikkim. Or to set up a trek into the mountains.
Make sure you catch a sunrise at Tiger Hill, a great place to get stunning views of the Himalaya and a clear day you can even see Mt. Everest. Afterwards you can visit nearby Ghoom and see the beautiful monastery there. Finish the morning with a ride on the toy train back into town. And have a cup of coffee or tea in a silver pot at Glenary's.

Also if you are wanting some good coffee shop comfort, and yummy bakery goodies check out Glenary's! Bakery coffee shop on the first floor, the bar in the basement, and GREAT indian food on the top floor! mmm
