The Kully valley has an ancient town in its lap called Manali. Surrounded by towering peaks at an arm length, Manali's major asset is its proximity to the snowline.Manali literally means the 'Home of Manu'. Manu is the mythological character who is supposed to have survived when the world was drowned in Great Flood. He then came to Manali and recreated human life. Thus, the area of Manali is sacred and Hindus and temples over here are mosttly pilgrimage destinations.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Manali
My review of Manali I'm afraid is not good. I went there on a trekking expedition and thoroughly enjoyed it. But then I had a day in Manali so I thought I will go to Solang Valley (Which is pretty good) and also a place for skiing which I cant remember. If you go to Manali don't go to the skiing spot. Its not what you think it is and it is simply too crowded and at the end of the day you will feel that you got fleeced. Instead there are a few spots to do white water rafting. Go for that. Solang valley on the other hand was a pleasant surprise in this hilly region. Loads of stuff to do here (although a little bit expensive). The most economically viable thing to do would be to book a cab for a day and go to all the places that appeal to you the most.
PS. Talk with a travel agent there and they will do the needful, and no they don't fleece you.

Scenic though touristy and happening Himachal spot... its full of long-time traveller residents, visiting local and foreigh tourists, hotels, restaurants, bars and so on... to enjoy the silence of the mountains people often come here for, head up for treks on one of its many trails... along a couple of them are lovely spas where you can unwind ... and the pleasure of interacting with simple and incredibly hospitable Himachal hill folk is unique... often a summer destination for people for Delhi and the plains...
