Travel Tips from people who've been to Rishikesh
How to get there-
1. take a taxi from Delhi which will be expensive. You will be driving for about 7 hours, very tiring.
2. go by train from Delhi: Dehradun Shatabdi express CC class is a very very good option. It costs about 550 INR inclusive meal. The train is really comfortable. You will arive in Haridwar and from there you can take a taxi or a bus (50 INR) to Rishikesh (approximately 1 hour drive).
3. take a flight to Dehradun and from there a taxi to Rishikesh. Haven't tried this option myself but I think it will work better than #1 option.
Good restaurants: Chottiwala, the Office, Coffee day.

Hari Om! Good tip? (0) Amazing place for tranquillity ... especially if you stay a little away from the hustle of the main part ... the Glasshouse (a Neemrana chain hotel) is great ... but if you want to go cheap, independent rooms in Swiss Bhandari Cottage (or any of the cluster of cheapies up there on the other side, before you enter the main city when coming from Haridwar) come as low as USD 5 or so, with a lovely cafe to boot, superb views, a backpacker crowd, and loads of peace quiet ...
