I merletti dell'Hawa Mahal incantano il passante anche per il mistero che celano dietro quelle finestre istoriate. Volti di donna celati da stoffe preziose come gioielli si muovono dietro di esse, nella penombra del..

An experience in itself. The best movie theater in Rajasthan, it offers an overwhelming experience. From the pushing, shoving, and general chaos in the ticket line, to an audience that laughs, cries, cheers, claps, and..

Travel Tips for Jaipur

Jaipur, Rajasthan, India
Amer fort has to be the highlight and the proverbial elephant ride up to it ... lots of guidebook sights here as well, including temples, havelis and maharaja-style stuff, but if I were here purely as a tourist, I would wrap up the sights quickly, eat and walk around a bit, but then head quickly westwards into places like Udaipur, Jodhpur and certainly Jaisalmer for a more relaxed feel of Rajasthan ... or use it as a hub for trips to nearby places like Shekhawati, Ranthambore or Sariska ...

I got the majority of my gifts while in Jaipur (of a 4 city trip). Lots of options. They have some great textile stores here as well. Plan to go for a ride on the elephants up to the castle!

Bring two empty bags and fill them with all teh gifts you will ever need to bring home at a place called Soma (any taxi can take you there). We stayed for $40 at an old palace called the Nirwan Niwas (or something pretty close to that). Walking distance to the fancy hotel (fill in name ... any guide book will have it) and I suggest you dine there.

Jaipur is a very colourful city, but ideally visit it in the late evening when the pink and the orange buildings exude a glow. Perfect pictures can be taken as the sun sets of the vibrant Rajasthanis against the backdrop of the pink city.

The capital of Rajasthan is now a very busy city in india. The City Palace, the Palace of Wind the near Amer Fort (around 11 kms from Jaipur) and 8 gates gaves this interesting city the name "Pink City". Today Jaipur ist well known for jewellery, stones and diamonds and around the old town in small houses you can find a lot of gem cutters who carve the stones. Are you interested in meditation? There is a big vipassana-meditation-center near Jaipur - the courses are free - but quite hard - 10 days in absolut silence and concentration - is really a very special experience.

Jantar Mantar is a fascinating display of astrological genius--but make sure you have a guide explain it to you. There's no possible way to understand how cool this place is without someone to explain the detailed astrological calculations.
