Stay absolutely in the old blue city, but do not pay to much attention to the cow shit on the streets

Not a place to stop if you are doing the all Rajasthan circuit. Pushkar, Udaipur and Jaisalmer have more to offer.

Try to stay at the Ajit Bhawan Palace. While this is not one of the most spectacular palace hotels in India, it is a delightful place to stay with all its little guest cottages dotted throughout the lush gardens. To the left of the main building are a couple of guest rooms which evoke the era of the Raj. Unfortunately, they face a nearby roadway and with traffic in India becoming a serious problem (both with noise and actual pollution) even late into the night, I recommend light sleepers opt for one of the secluded garden cottages. We were originally scheduled to stay in a front room; once that might have been a privilege; we decided to opt out.

The blue city as it is called... because of the many blue houses...the highlight clearly is the majestic Umaid Bhavan, a section of which is also a top-end hotel... go there to see it even if you are not staying...Jodhpur has a few other attractions too and you will invariably pass it on your way to Jaisalmer... so even though I prefer Jaisalmer any day, its worth stopping by in Jodhpur en route if your time permits and looking around a little...

Jodhupur has great palaces to stay in. The summer palace is a must to stay in one of their suites. Don't expect to eat westerner food the we know it. They have some good five star hotels as well, but they like to be tipped for every little thing.

Busy but great town where people are a bit used to Westerners. Go out early in the morning when the market people are building up their goods and you might be able to see workers passing by with their elefants. Of course don't miss the beautiful view of the blue city from atop of the hills old walls.

jodhpur can easily qualify as capital of indian exotica... it is the place to find heritage hotels (more like the first, as heritage hotels in rajasthan are a dime a dozen) and also the antiques shopping capital of the continent. a great place to visit, but only when the weather permits (winters only).  the best place to stay is the umaid bhavan palace... it was one of the last palaces to be built in the state and is an art deco landmark.
