Bengaluru (more commonly known as Bangalore) is one of the most important cities in India for it's IT and tech industry.  This large sprawling city is not specifically a tourist destination, but there are a number of temples worth seeing, and some markets with good food.  One good way to explore the city is to hire an english-speaking guide to take you around.

Heading to Bangalore, India, on business in February. For those who have been there, what would you do/see if you had only one half day free and maybe an evening or two?

Travel Tips from people who've been to Bangalore
A great place - a green city! cubbon park and all that, check out the violin shaped auditorium, you don't necessarily have to get the ariel view. Vidhan soudha (the state legislative) is quite a nice building. The city is getting a new airport, hopefully the former 'privately' run HAL airport will be replaced by something more spacious and convenient. I have been told it is going to be 40 kms away from the city, which leaves passengers to struggle through the ever increasing Bengaluru (new version of its name) traffic. But then the bright side is, plan accordingly and get a undiluted glimpse of its people caught in traffic! - no different to people anywhere else I suppose!!

Went there a while ago... but still remember some of its lovely bookshops... of course, now its the IT and the beer hub of India... so visit the Infosys campus if you will and do the pub crawl...and the traffic is increasingly chaotic too I hear... so take care...

I spent 2 weeks here for work and overall it's pretty Westernized.  Still an amazing culture, but not a lot of time to really check out the sites.  Botanical gardens aren't really what you'd expect, but good for a nice break from the office.  Lots of shops selling scarfs and such for the ladies - be sure to let them do their whole pitch before buying or leaving, they appear to work hard at their selling tactics and be sure to haggle, you can always get a bargain.  Don't forget you can't drink the water if you're coming from the US - even on your toothbrush!
