Travel Tips from people who've been to Munnar
Picturesqueche Munnar is an eight hour drive away from Ernakulam, and is approximately 135km from Cochin city, kerala.Munnar was known to be a summer resort for british officials during the pre-independence era.Known for its misty hills and tea estates, its a visual treat to the eyes.Rich in wildlife, The Blossom international park,Chinnar wild sanctuary,Marayoor(waterfalls and sandalwood forests),Eravikulam national park(Rajamalai) are all living testimony to its beauty and wildlife. The tata tea museum is another place worth the visit.Local transportation is the best,as its always accompanied by guides. Most common mode of transport is the local bus,and cabs.Accomdation is varied and a seasoned tourist will find a place to stay to suit his budget.Interaction with locals wouldnt be a problem as locals are well versed with english, malayalam and tamil.Activities to indulge in would vary from trekking, hiking, speed boat rides and wild life photography.Best time to visit Munnar is between January to June. The period from June to sep is monsoon, and one wouldnt get much to see during the time as the region experiences heavy rainfall.Oct-Dec is winter, and the place is extremely cold, woollens would have to be bought along during that time of the year.Dont forget to get a good digicam or camcorder, because the place is fantastic visually.Do enlist the help of a tour guide as most of the places of attraction are a few kms distance from Munnar.

While in Munnar do stay at Wild Elephant Eco-Friendly Resort, which is an amazing place where the  cottages are made of bamboo leaf, mud cottages, leaf cottages and tree top cottages. The resort has a swimming pool and also gets it water from a nearby waterfall which can be viewed from the resort. There are lot of places to see in the rainforest and if you are lucky you can see Wild Elephants in hordes of 50 to 60 in a place called Anakulam. The resort is serene and quiet and one doesnt feel he is in India
