Indonesia Religion

The Indonesian constitution guarantees freedom of religious worship.   The major religions are Islam (practiced by more than 85% of the population), Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism, which are all recognised by the government and have national holidays commemorating significant days for these religions.

Unfortunately, there have been conflicts among the followers of different religions, especially between Christians and Muslims in the eastern part of the country, although things have calmed down somewhat in the last few years.   There has also been radicalisation of some segments of the Muslim population leading to terrorist activities such as the Balinese bombing in the mid-2000s.
