Travel Tips from people who've been to Padang
The province of West Sumatra is like a vast and magnificent nature reserve dominated by vulcanoes with jungles, waterfalls, canyons and lakes. This is the homeland of the Minangkabau, one of Indonesia's most interesting and influential ethnic group. Padang is the provincial capital. Other mayor cities are Payakumbuh, Bukit Tinggi, Padang Panjang, Solok, and Sawahlunto. The fascinating Mentawai islands are also part of West Sumatra but the inhabitants are quite different from the people of mainland Sumatra. Good tip? (0) To go swimming choose Carlos Beach( around 45 minutes by angkot from Mata Hari shopping mall). There are more tourists there, so locals do not stare at you so much. But be careful with Carlos himself, because he likes cheating people. Always insist on paying when you get the order because Carlos keeps adding up price to your bill. Good tip? (0) nah ini dia kampung gue hehe.. kalo mau kesini kalian juga harus nyoba ke bukit tinggi.. byar ga kdinginan kalo malem harus bawa jaket, disini penginapan banyak yg g mahal kok jadi gampang.
