Amazing city - from the architectural marvels of Naqsh-e-Jahaan square to the tea-sipping river-gazing peace of sitting in a chaikhana under Si-o-Se bridge... don't even think of missing Esfahan if you are in Iran ... there are plenty of hotels and restaurants along the main street with varied quality and cost ... and once you have done your sightseeing (other than Naqsh-e-Jahan and the Emam Khomeini mosque which are the obvious magnets of Esfahan, I recommend Hasht Behesht, Chelsetoun, the Armenian Church, the Shaking Minarets though they don't shake now, and the Astegah or Fire Temple of the ancient Farsis) ... just head to a teahouse under one of the bridges and spend as much time as you can there gazing at the river and taking in a cross-section of Iranian life and chit-chatting groups there (it seems a lot of the teahouses under the other bridges are sort of defunct but the one under Si-o-Se Pul is alive and kicking)...

Isfahan (actually: Esfehan)  is one of the most beautiful cities of Iran. I went there as a four year old child and the one thing I remember so clearly is the impression it made on me. With it's colourfull mosques and large squares it's a must see if you go to Iran. It has great architecture and Esfehan has been designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esfahan

This city has many places to visit so if you decide to go there, plan ahead of time. Get a cab for the whole day and tell them where you want to go, the drivers usually know the best route to maximize the places you can visit. Of course you want to visit the bazaars too, so many hand-made souvenirs to be purchased!
