Mashhad Region Travel Guide

Holy city of Mashhad is a big city. There are so many pilgrims over there to visit sanctuary of Imam Reza (pbuh). So there are plenty of service businesses in Mashahd to serve religious tourists. There are also somthing about Ferdowsi (The great persian poet), King Nader and some other tourist places to see. This city is always very crowded.

Don't even think to wear your hidjab the 'Tehrani' way, ie uncovering your front hair; the Komiteh will just snap at you.  

There is nothing here, for the record, apart from the weird border crossing between Turkmenistan and Iran. The Turkmenis may try to pretend you don't have the right visa in order to get a bribe. Once past customs, a bus which hardly works will drive you past the small bridge to Iran. If you are a tourist and not one of the many Turkmen with a vast amount of wares, make it known and the customs people (usually ladies) will helpfully show you the exit on the Iranian side.
