Few travelers choose to stop at Shannon when traveling to Ireland, and those that do often go to see the Airport. Those traveling through the area most often go to more well-known destinations such as Bunratty and Doolin. Travel Tips from people who've been to Shannon
Nice airport, close by is an attraction called Bunratty castle.  Real castle, has a restored village (1600s) next to it.  In the evenings they have a banquet with real time period food and entertainment.  Little pricey but defiantly worth it.  Family friendly.  Self tours of the ground and village probably take 2-3 hours, banquet is about 2 hours.

Aww, what can I say, I love Ireland.  I've been there 2 times.  Flown into Shannon all 3 times, but departed from Dublin once, cause the flights were full out of Shannon on that trip. My favorite place to stay is this old Castle, called Dromoland, not too far a drive from Shannon Airport.  Just thinking of it, makes me want to go back again and have a pint of Guiness (or several)!

Go walk around the old castles and abbeys that are everywhere in the surrounding small towns.
Not much else to do in the tiny towns but there sure is plenty of green.
Also, eat a "99" from any gas station or shop, it's ice cream with a chocolate stick in it and it's delicious!
