Travel Tips from people who've been to Monkstown
Nice little town near Cork Harbour.
The Castle is well worth a look, it has fallin into disrepair the last few years and needs alot of work, you can't go inside but it's worth a look from the outside.

The castle was built in 1639 Dame Anastasia (Gould) Archdeacon. There is a story told that when John returned, he thought the castle had been built by the enemy and fired a cannon at it.   It is also said that the castle cost only four pence (4d).
Anastasia and her husband John are also buried in the grounds of the castle and if you going look...it's down a side path just before you head out the gates...you should be able to find the tombs.

The castle grounds are now full of expensive houses and the Monkstown golf club.

Just as you drive over the "Cut and Cover" (the twisty bit of road that passes over the old railway line between monkstown and Glenbrook), look up towards the wood and there is  a large rock with a painting of a dog on it.

The story goes that the dog saved a child from drowning in the river.
