Travel Tips from people who've been to County Galway
  • A very nice small town in west Ireland, you can just walk to get around the town. A decent map can be get from the train and bus station.
  • The attraction of Galway are Cliffs of Moher, Connemara, the Burren and Arann Islands. So if you haven't done your homework before arrive here, there's pamphlets everywhere especially at the bus station or tourists centre. There's plenty tour buses to visit all those places, but of course you need some other form of transportation to go to Arann Islands!
  • The nearest international airport is Shannon which situated near Limerick. Ryanair got a hub over there, so if you're coming from continental europe, Shannon should be quite accessible.
  • For muslims, halal food are really scarce over here. You can find one or two Turkish restaurant, but i've heard that they also couldn't guarantee their food's status. There's no mosque currently in Galway, where local muslims have to rent a basketball court every week for mass Firday prayer. They've tried to raise money to buy a property and convert them into mosque, but so far it wasn't successful.

Gaillimh - Galway - the city by the bay, the home of the claddagh and my ancestors birth place. Galway holds a deep spiritual essence that oozes out of it's cobblestoned streets. An ecclectic mixture of modernity and olde worlde this would have to be one of my favourite cities in Ireland. The lilting accent of the locals, the joyous atmosphere in the bars and the beauty of the landscape make this a must see destination. Unlock the mystery of the claddagh in a handcrafted jewllery shop, sample the world's best Guinness in one of the many traditional bars or experience the beauty of the region on a day trip to the  Connemarra lake district. So much to do and see for all tastes and budgets whether it be a relaxing escape or a rugged adventure that you've come for Galway has it all.

Great place, the B&B are a bit cheaper then the hotels and also have a good size breakfast.  Stay close to city center and you can walk to most things.  Has some great bus tours, n particular one that goes north to an abby/castle and one that goes south to some really great sea cliffs.  Do more then one and get a good discount.  The day tours take most of the day but get a lot of sightseeing and visit some neat places.  Both of our tours went from about 10 to 5:30. Lot of walking for both so bring good footwear and make sure you have plenty of memory for your camera.
