Israel

Dramatic and diverse - a true land of extremes - Israel is a country with an ancient world feel alongside a backdrop of new world modernization and  modernism, ultra-religious and secular values as well as out of this world natural attractions and unique architecture. Head to the Dome of Rock and the Temple Mount in Jerusalem to see one of the holiest Muslim sites - a temple built in 691 AD on the site of the fabled Temple of Solomon. Journey to the Hassidic quarters of Kea Shearim, or wander through the romantic Old Jaffa with its minarets and Crusader Ruins. Go to the Sea of Galilee, considered the birthplace of Christianity or alternatively turn towards the desert that surrounds the Dead Sea – where the abandoned Nabatean cities of Avdat and Shivta can be found. Spend some time hiking down Wadi Kelt, and get views of extraordinary canyons, or go on a llama trek in the Ramon Crater. To top it all off, snorkel or scuba dive in the Dead Sea itself, where some of the most amazing coral reefs and wildlife await. The regions off of Coral Island are legendary. Sense and see for yourself the places spoken of in stories and legends of the ancient past while soaking in directly the beautiful beaches and fascinatingly complex culture.

Jerusalem, Israel
Go visit the old city in Jerusalem, walk through the streets of the market, on any friday evening watch the sunset over the western wall. ladies please remember to cover your legs (don't wear shorts or really short skirts)
Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv & Surrounds, Israel
The best and cheapest way to get from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem or vice versa, is with the multiple person taxis that run between the two cities. It is convenient since you just pile in and wait for the taxi to fill up to the point where the driver feels he has enough passengers and off you go. Just DO NOT expect to carry a huge backback or any suitcases with you. This is a commuter taxi, not a luggage transportation service!
Jerusalem, Israel
jerusalem is the place for everybody.all kind invite to visit jerusalem.
Jerusalem, Israel
Old city with lots of history, should use several days to really grasp all
Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv & Surrounds, Israel
It was 1995 last time I was in Tel-Aviv but I don't suppose its changed a whole lot. The caital and business centre of Israel, but you don't visit the country for that, get out of Tel-Aviv and to the likes of Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, the Negev and visit some biblical historical places
Jerusalem, Israel
An amazing place - you can feel the history. Try not to be alarmed by the astounding number of teenagers with automatic rifles slung on their backs. The Dome of the Rock is a highlight - but it is now closed to non muslims.
Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv & Surrounds, Israel

Tel Aviv a great night life scene.Check out all the clubs and the bars which are always packed till morning.
Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv & Surrounds, Israel
Easy to get lost with all the traffic, therefor, use taxis or/and trains. Don't rent a flat over there because prices are skyhigh. Visit the beach, the Ezrieli towers and have fun during the nightlife.

Jerusalem, Israel
Before you take a taxi make sure you establish a price with the driver and pay or they will try rip you off. Public transport - buses - are much cheaper and the drivers are very helpful.
Zippori, Galilee, Israel
Zippori has a huge archaeological site that is still being explored but is open to the public. A number of mosaics have been found dating back to Roman and Byzantium times. There is also a huge water cistern dating back to Roman times. It is really amazing.
Ramat HaSharon, Tel Aviv & Surrounds, Israel
nothing special in my town - except for being 15 minutes away by car (plus bad traffic) from the centre of Tel-Aviv. anyways, what can anybody possibly have to look for in Tel-Aviv? and know, i don't profess to know the streets. go lost even in my own tiny town.
Jerusalem, Israel
Weather you are Christian, Muslim, Bahai, Catholic or just love history , Jerusalem is a must-see. Just one thing, if you go to the old Jerusalem market places, be prepared to bargain with the shopkeepers and also be warned that if you walk out of a shop empty-handed, chances are , they will folllow you down the road still trying to make a sale. Oh, yes and another think, would appear that our left means their right so be careful when asking for directions. Best place to stay is the Swedish Packpackers in the old city market itself. Its central to everything and you can hear church bells, mosques wailing and feel the vibe of the city...if these walls could speak!
Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv & Surrounds, Israel
Tel Aviv is an amazing friendly place. The beachfront has something similar to Durban's Golden Mile and beaches are stunning. Just don't sit on the chairs as they are not free! Behind the skyscrapers and hotels lies a city with old buildings and market places and crumbling building , but stunning architecture. Tel Aviv is rich in culture - both from a secular and Jewish perspective. Markets are the best place to shop for fresh veggies and bargains. Nite life is cool and safe to walk around . If you enjoy Cape Town's Long Street vibe you'll feel right at home in Tel Aviv. Transport is great - taxis run 24/7 , but the buses close down for Shabat (Friday sunset to Saturday sunset). High security in malls, but generally one feels very safe wherever you go. Jewish people are warm, open , loving , peaceful and very hospitable and family - orientated. Contrary to what most people believe, the chances of you being bombed on your visit is prob 1000000000000 to 1 so go enjoy!
Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv & Surrounds, Israel
Take time to wander down the beach and visit old Jaffa. You can visit the port and the maze of steps and streets in the old Arab quarter. Visit the Aladdin restaurant for lunch and make sure you get a seat on the roof terrace with magnificent views of Tel Aviv.
Jerusalem, Israel
The view of the old city from the Mount of Olives in the morning on a sunny day is just spectacular. I recommend a guided tour to make the most of what can be a confusing place. It's a heady mixture of culture and religion, don't miss it.
En Boqeq, South (The Negev), Israel
A good place to swim in the Dead Sea here. Don't go in if you have just shaved - it will hurt like hell! Use the free changing and toilet facilities at the oulet shop just next to the beach. By swim, I mean float on your back. Take a newspaper so someone can take the typical tourist photo of you.reading in the sea. You will be 420m below sea level as the level of the dead sea keeps dropping.
Jerusalem, Israel
A place of grand history, physical beauty, and the most holy place on earth. I was spellbound and the layers of history were awesome, can't wait to return. Pay attention to what/who is around you, don't worry about the soldiers and their guns, it is life there. Definitely get a solid cost before getting into the taxi, travel in groups, and enjoy the nightlife.
Hefa, Haifa & North Coast, Israel
MUST visit the Bahai Shrines and the Carmel - Tayelet. Clean, well organized beaches with a lot of swimmers and good views. Easy Traffic, many tourists, good, welcoming population.
Elat, South (The Negev), Israel
There is so much to do in and around Eilat that you will need to prioritise your time. Don't just sit on the beach or at your hotel soaking up the sun: Take a jeep safari into the Negev and visit Timna park and the Eilat mountains, spend a day at the unique aquarium, if you are more adventurous take a day trip to petra in Jordan or even a day trip to the Dead Sea or Jerusalem (usually Saturdays only).
Elat, South (The Negev), Israel

If you are in Tel Aviv, stay at the Intercontinental Hotel - it's the only of the hotels with modern amenities that feels like an international hotel. AND don't miss dinner on the Patio at Susanna. Anyone local will know where it is (short walk/cab ride from Intercontinental Hotel).

Propably the only sea-food restaurant in the area! If you'll get tired of falafels and other kosher stuff go to old harbour in Jaffa (Yafo) and you'll find a great seafood restaurant runned by russians. Forgot the name but no worries - it's the only one :) Mussels, crabs, lobsters, prawns - all you'd want from the sea!
Tel Aviv-Yafo, Tel Aviv & Surrounds, Israel
the new central bus station is a fascinating place in its way. five storey of shops and stalls in a unique run-down atmosphere which is quite different from what you get in the center of tel-aviv.

The public bathrooms near the Western Wall are clean and well-maintained.  Since there aren't many public bathrooms in the Old City, this is worth knowing about, particularly if (like me) you're suffering from stomach problems.

Tel Aviv is a great city no matter who you are and what you want to do. It's hot and sunny, has a nice beach and a long, nice market that leads to it! Get fresh fruit, orange juice, your own jewish clothing or just tacky souverirs. Appareantly there's an excellent night life (haven't experiences it though) and it's nice just walking home in the middle of the night when the soft yellow lights hanging over the streets. Mm. It's not hard finding good food and if you feel like it - hop on a bus and go to Jerusalem, it only takes a couple of hours!

On Dolphin reef, you can dive with dolphins... it's a great experience and it is not much more expensive of a normal dive.
Sedom, South (The Negev), Israel
Sedom, south of the Dead Sea, is the alleged place of Sedom and Gommorah in the Bible. One can see the place where Lot was, according to tradition, transformed in a salt statue. Nothing more to see. Better go to Ein Gedi, 40 km noth for a swim in the Dead Sea.
Elat, South (The Negev), Israel
Snorkeling at the princessbeach with free access and close to the Egyptian boarder is interesting. Sleep around a campfire and be amazed at the beautiful sky at night. Best place is close to the pillars of amram. be careful not to sleep in an empty riverbed, it could be very dangerous once it starts raining. if you prefer a roof over your head, stay in the 'shelter' backpack which is very conveniant.
Binyamina, Haifa & North Coast, Israel
A quiet little town just north of Tel Aviv with good train connections. Has good wine
Nazerat 'Illit, Galilee, Israel
In the old center there is a church where they say Joseph's shop was.To discover the north of Israel, get a car and drive a round for a day or two. Nazareth is a good place to stop but not to stay for too long.
En Gedi, South (The Negev), Israel
The beach at Ein Gedi is not very pretty at all, but the best spot for the obligatory dip in the dead sea. Busses go there from Jerusalem frequently. Taking busses back is quite a challenge, it's easier to stop a Sherut and hich a ride back.
Hefa, Haifa & North Coast, Israel
The most beautiful city in Israel, You Should see Semiramida's gardens

Tel Aviv-Yafo, Tel Aviv & Surrounds, Israel
Tel Aviv is an exciting city, the home of the one and only Dana International. My favorite spots are around Sderot Ben Gourion/Ben Yehuda/Dizengoff and around Rotschild Bd. The beach is lots of fun, especially the beach cafés near the American Ambassy, where you can sip a glass of wine with your feet in the sand... The Bauhaus architecture throughout the city is really interesting, and offers great contrast with the new gleaming skyscrapers.

Go to the big mall to cool down.
Jerusalem, Israel
Loved Jerusalem. Don't bother with an expensive hotel, you only sleep there. Most of the time you're walking about. I stayed at the King George Hostel. The restuarants are a bit touristy, bit side street ones are pretty good. Hit the old city and go to the real NY deli, ask for a pastrami sandwich, and after you eat it, the butcher will tell you that it was turkey pastami. I went to Mc Davids, and they do serve cheeseburgers. Annoyed by the guys who walk around barefoot all day, thinking they are the messiah. Most are American. Go figure. Annoyed by all the fundamentalist christian tour groups wandering around in packs of 40, with a special names, like Israelites or Pharaohs. If you go in March. Bring warm clothes, really.
Jerusalem, Israel
Not everybody wears a face veil, and just about everyone speaks English, contrary to popular opinion! Expect to get searched while entering shopping malls (nothing invasive)... but that may have changed since the last time I was there was about two years ago.

Ask your hotel about visiting Bethlehem. Most of the diamond cutters have free tours but you have to stop and visit their factories and showroom...not a hardship since this is an interesting experience and a free one if you do not get sucked into buying diamonds. The van from the diamond cutters will pick you up and you have a couple of hours to visit Bethlehem.

Decadent, elegant, charming, nostalgic, happy and wistful. So European, yet so alarmingly Middle Eastern, Tel Aviv captures one with the force of love´s handcuffs, because many times love for a place and its memory are stronger than love for any person. Tel Aviv will make you regret you did not spend your childhood years there. But you can still stroll along its lovely beaches and breathe in the Mediterranean air, every night until...no, you will never get tired. Tel Aviv (city of spring) will never cease to be generous and kind to all its people...
Bat Yam, Tel Aviv & Surrounds, Israel
You must catch a sunset on the Mediterranean shore!!!

Elat, South (The Negev), Israel
Great place to have fun. Loads of discos and night clubs. Beach destination around the year, the temperature of Red Sea is never below 20 degrees celsius. Some might get disturbed by the fact that there are srmed Israeli soldiers everywhere (like anywhere in Israel) and if you´re entering a mall or any bigger supermarket, a security man will check your hand-bag or rucksack before you can enter. Elat is very safe destination though. One doesn´t have to worry much about thieves or about the arab-israeli conflict. The Jordanian and Egyptian borders are close, so therefore there are quite a few check-up points on the roads to Elat. If you like scoopa diving ot snorkelling, this is your place. Red Sea is famous for it´s beautiful corals and colourful fishes. If you don´t dive yourself, you can always make a trip with glass bottom boat and see the colourful sea life from there. There´s really not much to see in Elat. They don´t have historical sites there. But you can try some of the tourist excurcions: the camel safari in a desert, bedouin night or to the nearby wild life resort Timna Park. Elat is quite expensive. Food, beverages, alcohol, accomodation. So if you´re travelling with a small budget, don´t stay too long in Elat. Much cheaper destinations by the Red Sea are on the Egyptian side of the border: try Nuewiba or Dahab instead.
Jerusalem, Israel
Israel is a beautiful place to visit, and I recommend everyone should go. If your traveling alone a rental car is almost a must if you plan to see as many sights as you can. Drink lots of water. It tends to be very hot in Israel and your will do a lot of walking/hiking. If you want to float in the Dead Sea make sure you don't get the water in your eyes because it will sting very badly. If you do happen to get the water from the Dead Sea in your eyes simply take some fresh clean water and pure it over your eyes to wash away the Dead Sea water.

מה יש לראות ברחובות? יש תכל'ס את מכון וייצמן, אם זה מגניב אותכם, יש את המפעל נשק ההוא מימי המחתרות, ויש אותי :D.אה, ויש את שוק רחובות שדי מפורסם...
Tel Aviv-Yafo, Tel Aviv & Surrounds, Israel
Tel Aviv is a very exiciting city. Not only due to its night life which can be very surprising, but also for a strange sense of danger, which is rarely perceived in our countries.Gay travellers will enjoy it a lot, as Israeli's guys are a full-range mixture of people from all over the world.A tip for eating: try Orna Ella, a nice little restaurant, very easy to find it on the web or a guide.

when you go to the arabic part of jerusalem, always put a golden ring on your ring finger or put on a headscarf, otherwise it is possible you get followed or touched by arabic men. a golden ring or a headscarf means that you are married, so they won't badger you.
En Gedi, South (The Negev), Israel
Hiking outside in the mountains of En Gedi has been one of the coolest things I've ever done. The view is amazing! ... the Red Sea, Jordan, the mountains! They have these cute little rodent animals that I've never seen and also einbecks (think I'm misspelling), a type of mountain goat. I saw one climb up into a tree! The waterfalls are BEYOND amazing. Well worth the exhausting hike up to the top of the mountain. If you plan to hike, be sure you're in fairly good shape... you're in for a workout.
En Boqeq, South (The Negev), Israel

join the 24 hour gym in dizengoff which is stuffed with gay guys and they have these semi naked little parties i there, its like all twisted for their pleasure but a good gym, go to the bars ad clubs in florentine south of alenby street ad the port for fun and TLV gay parties. do lunch in the amazing cafes ad resterants some nice ones dow bograshov the food is killa, and the salads will ock u sideways, they are beasts. for local specials away from the cosmopilitan try yemen food jarchnon, shakshuka which is north african, iraqi sandwiches. go to the beach bars in the evennings to chill. go up to jaffa for more bars ad resteratants and fetish clubs and arabic flee market and abulafia the best arab food joint. go to the port for fashion festivals and afterparties. tel aviv is icredibly hot it will make you crazy . if possible avoid he summer heat which is humid umbearably. tel aviv is no doubt a possy joint, but if u just want to be superficial and fun, yeahhh its great. imsure there is a serious side but i never found it. russian lesbian raves are also a must. nevet sedic is pretty. and u can walk most places its a walkable size.

don't leave until you've seen the underwater life, i recommend sleeping in tents on the nesiha beach, but try to find a quiet spot.also - don't get in the water barefooted, it's full of sea porcupines (but it only hurts, not dangerous)

What a magical place. Walk around and take in all the sights and sounds. You can walk the path Jesus took with the cross, a very spiritual feeling.
