The Castello Estense, also known as the Castel Vecchio is the moated castle where Renaissance murderess Lucrezia Borgia spent most of her married life. She is one of the venomous Borgia family who are legended to be the most incestuous, murdering, vindictive and manipulative family in Renaissance Italy. The castle itself is not incredibly interesting, but taking the history that transpired within the walls with you while you tour and you'll have a wonderful time.

The city of Ravenna is amazing. There is not just one church with Byzantine art in it, but like six or seven of them and there's lots of history behind them. Take your time to read a history book about the city and then visit the city with all the history in the back of your head. It will be as good as visiting Istanbul or Rome!
