Lazio Region What to Expect
Rome, Lazio Region, Italy Travel without children...it is very crouded...not very kid friendly Good tip? (0) Rome, Lazio Region, Italy Great city with a lot of history, but beware of the little kids that try to pickpocket you! Good tip? (0) Rome, Lazio Region, Italy Be very mindful when getting off and on the metros, there are some serious pickpocketing kids hanging out in those areas. Good tip? (0) Rome, Lazio Region, Italy Villa Borghese - Great place to run, people watch, etc. Great views of the city, as well. At the top of the hill at Via Veneto. Any taxi driver will know it. Art gallery in the park. Amusements for kids. Amphitheatre. Good tip? (0) Rome, Lazio Region, Italy Groups of children will come close to you and distract you while picking your pockets. For instance - they'll hold a sheet of paper close to your face and while you're leaning back trying to read it, they're in your pockets and gone - I lost USD300 with this one. Or a young girl carrying a baby will throw it to you - when you look, the baby's a bundle of rags or papers. Most importantly - DON'T touch or hit them - stabbing territory. Good tip? (0) Rome, Lazio Region, Italy Ladies: careful what you wear (especially in summer). Not only will you find it difficult to get into certain areas of the Vatican, Italian men tend to show their appreciation of the fine female form with a pinch on the bum. After a day of sightseeing, me bum was purple. ciao bella! Good tip? (0) Rome, Lazio Region, Italy I traveled Rome solo. Before I went I was nervous about getting around in a non-english country but honestly I had no problems getting around Rome or finding someone to answer a question for me. Most people (and the tons of tourists) speak English very well. Also as a solo female traveler, I didn't walk around alone at night. I noticed there were heaps of poorly lit areas so just walk with a friend you meet in the hostiles. Good tip? (0) Rome, Lazio Region, Italy An extraordinary country! Good to visit, always! Good tip? (+4) Rome, Lazio Region, Italy Do the Archeo bus tour. â¬20 for 2 day pass on open top tour bus the archeo bus. Well worth it. Check opening times of Catacombs first as are closed from 12:30-15:30 or something like that it takes almost an hour to get there Good tip? (+1) Rome, Lazio Region, Italy When visiting Rome, I recommend staying at the Hotel San Carlo. The price is fairly cheap and it's located in the center of the city. The Spanish Steps are just a couple of steps away and the shopping is fabulous around there. The hotel is basically the center of all the attractions. Local restaurants are located along the small alleys and any will be fit for your satisfaction. Rome is a place of beauty and history and when there you want to absorb it all before you leave. I would definitely recommend visiting the Colosseum and buying a ticket to go inside. However, I must warn you the line for the ticket will be very long around 1hr to 4 hrs. While at the site of the Colosseum, you should visit the Roman Forum, which is a great way to experience the way the Romans lived during their era. I would recommend you try to reserve the ticket before hand. The Vatican is also a great place to visit. The entrance into the chapel is free, however the museum will cost 16 euros. I would recommend visiting the Vatican City first, when done exploring the city you can enter the museum, which entrance is located in the back of the city. When done with the museum you will exit back to the front of the Vatican entrance where you can go into the Church. Another great place to visit would be the Pantheon. Entrance to the Pantheon is free and its a great place to experience the wonders of the Catholic religion during the Roman period. If you just want to relax and hang out with a couple of friends visit the Spanish Step, where you will find locals and tourist in the area just lounging around at night. Good tip? Just too cahotic... Good tip? (0) Rome, Lazio Region, Italy +I just know Rome through its airport dont go out side. Hope to know more Good tip? (0) Rome, Lazio Region, Italy Concerning what to bring on a visit to Rome, I would like to offer the following tips. From my experience during the summer, this city gets very hot. Most of the popular attractions involve a great deal of walking so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. Sunscreen, light-weight clothing, sunglasses and a hat would be extremely helpful in avoiding the harmful effects of the sun and heat. Expect to spend a lot when looking for bottled water and plan to carry some water with you during the day. Good tip? (0) Rome, Lazio Region, Italy Rome has only two metro lines: A and B, which means you'll be doing a lot of walking... fortunately most of the sights are within a few miles of each other and a normal person should be able to walk about anywhere. Plus it helps shed all those extra pounds from the deliciously large portions! :P Good tip? (0) Bracciano, Lazio Region, Italy Bracciano is a small town in the Italian region of Lazio 30 km northwest of Rome. The town is famous for its volcanic lake (Lago di Bracciano or "Sabatino", the eighth largest lake in Italy) and for a particularly well-preserved medieval castle. The lake is widely used for sailing and is popular with tourists; the castle has hosted a number of events, especially weddings of actors and singers.
The town is served by an urban railway (Line FR3) which connects it with Rome (stations of Ostiense and Valle Aurelia) in about 45 minutes. Close to it lie the two medieval towns of Anguillara Sabazia and Trevignano Romano
Main sight.
The main monument of Bracciano is its castle, Castello Orsini Odescalchi, one of the most noteworthy examples of Renaissance military architecture in Italy.
3 km outside the city, alongside the road leading to Trevignano Romano is the ancient church of San Liberato (ninth century). It occupies what was once the Roman settlement of Forum Clodii , now surrounded by an herb garden, part of the complex of English-style gardens at the adjoining Villa San Librato, designed by Russel Page in 1965 for the art historian conte Donato Sanminatelli and his contessa, Maria Odescalchi, and carried out over the following decade.
On the same road are the ruins of the Aquae Apollinaris , a complex of baths famous in the Roman age.
At Vigna di Valle, facing the lake, an ancient hydroplane base houses today the museum of theAeronautica Militare Italiana. The museum's four hangars include most of the historical Italian military aircraft, including famous planes . The museum stages an annual 'Giornata Azzura' airshow at pratica di Mare airport.
