Travel Tips from people who've been to Monterosso al Mare
If you're not carrying a lot of cash with you, be very careful when choosing your dining spot. We were hiking all day and planned to hang out at the beach here after the long and hot trek up and down the mountains. Therefore, we didn't carry much cash. We ate at a beautiful restaurant here right on the beach but learned after our meal that they didn't take credit cards! Two of the three ATMs were out of service. We spent probably 90 minutes trying to get the cash we needed to pay our bill (two of the ATMs were on the "far" side of town, through the tunnel) and we ended up missing our train back to Manarola. We had to take a train to Riomaggiore and then walk back on the trail in the dark.
Hotel Margherita was a real gem of a hotel and we have a lovely sized room for three of us which is unusl in Italy where small hotel rooms are the norm. Molto Bello, The place is a part of Cinque Terre, meaning the five lands. It's just down from the Italian Rivera and is more relaxing. It 's where pesto came from and the pesto is really good there along with the relax beach town atmosphere at must place to see!
