Liguria Region People & Culture
La Spezia, Liguria Region, Italy If you visit Italy a must see is Cinque Terre. Cinque Terre is five small villages chiseled into the rocky cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. They are Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza Monterosso. It might not surprise you to know the tourist population of this area grows every year, not from advertising but from word-of-mouth as people are so taken by their experience that they want other people to go there. It is a dream destination... Good tip? (+1) Cengio, Liguria Region, Italy Not too much to do - generally, avoid the boredom of this city :) Under the pine tree in the main square there's almost always people chatting. Along the road for the station there's a park with sport facilities (tennis, soccer, skating, volleyball, beach volley, squash) and a popoular pub which is especially lovely during the summer. Good tip? (0) Corniglia, Liguria Region, Italy Bring water bottles. There are something like 320 stairs to climb to get to this hilltop town from the Cinque Terre National Park trail from Manarola. The higher you climb, the more impressive the view. It's worth the hike up (lots of people skip Corniglia and take the train stright to Vernazza) because the town is quite beautiful and the vistas are amazing. There were several nice small restaurants for lunch there (although we were too early so waited until we reached Vernazza). Good tip? (0) Genova, Liguria Region, Italy Not thus beautiful as I waited for me. Evocative but dangerous. The famous Aquarius is absolutely fantastic! To avoid theport zone… its bad reputation is not a legend! too many tightened alleys, too much dark… but some meter more in are local here, people that walk and laugh, and amazing small restaurants that make the best fish I've ever eat! Good tip? (0) Varazze, Liguria Region, Italy The best place if you want to find lovely beaches, great atmosphere, nice people, lots of sun, the best italian food:) Good tip? (0) San Remo, Liguria Region, Italy It is a small narrow street Italian city... don't expect the glamour showed by the San Remo Music Festival... Good tip? (0) Savona, Liguria Region, Italy Savona is a small city in the sea side, in the north-west of italy, in the region of Liguria.
I suggest you a small but really nice restaurant not far from the historical centre, called "Punto d'Incontro", where you can eat the tipical "farinata" and a lot of other tasty food.
For the nightlife, The close village of Albisola will make you enjoy your trip with the mixture of discotheques and bars. You will be part of the many musical or drama shows during all summer. Good tip? (0) San Remo, Liguria Region, Italy best time to go is during the San Remo music festival Good tip? (0) Corniglia, Liguria Region, Italy Cinque Terre is a must see! If you hike from Manarola to Vernazza you will see this quaint mountain village. Good tip? (0) Santa Margherita Ligure, Liguria Region, Italy Although this city is expensive, it is worth a visit. Amazing views of the water. The town was a fun one to walk around to explore local life. A hotel worth mentioning is the "Hotel La Vela (Castello il Rifugio)". It is a hike from the center of town below but if you hail a cab, in just moments it will take you up to a hotel with amazing views of the town and seaside below. Outside your window you will see curtains of flowers, large and bright in color. Pictures cannot capture the beauty to be seen in this town. The hotel offered a large breakfast and was clean. Staff was unimpressive but otherwise its a good hotel. Nice town to relax in and also a good alternative to the Cinque Terre which is often booked through peak times. Stay here and take a short train ride to the Cinque Terre for a day trip. Good tip? Good tip? (0) Sarzana, Liguria Region, Italy Sarzana is a very nice place to travel to.
I ahve been there in August for a Week, when in Italy it is Summer Holiday.
During this period there are loads of things to do there and many activities take place there.
Some local Festivals (SAGRA) in the smaller villages up in the mountians where it is still possible to eat out on the main square with stunning views over the Sea and good typical food.
In Sarzana there is antique Fair in the Streets and also some kind of art exhibition and painters working under your eyes.
All Restauranrs are pretty good there!
Farinata (a kind of bread) is good and the Fish is delicious there!
The City of Sarzana itself is very coosy and there is a nice small fortified Castle in the Center that si worth a visit. Good tip? (0) Recco, Liguria Region, Italy childhood memories...from here you can travel to all the famous beautiful little villages of the ligurian coast like rapallo, portofino, portovenere, lerici. i would always prefer this side of the italian coast to the adria. the beaches are hided under rocks. you can climb up to the restaurants and look down to the sea and the fisherman. i remember that i got a bunch of raw fish from one them, they were raw, only covered with much salt and very tasty. Quite expensive but definetely a must-go if you happen to drive by the area. Good tip? (0) Ventimiglia, Liguria Region, Italy One of the moust dirtys town in western countries where I have been. Good tip? (0) Vernazza, Liguria Region, Italy go with the expectation that you will have a very quiet week-end! x Good tip? (0) Genova, Liguria Region, Italy What to say about one of the largest port cities on the Mediterannean?
It's huge, full of traffic jams and especially crowded in the period of the Salone Nautico di Genova, the world's largest nautic fair, featuring more than 2000 boats every year.
Otherwise, there's a fantastic aquarium, one of the largest in Europe and the beautiful city center with the shopping areas with all the best italian brands. It's very similar to Milan's via Montenapoleone.
Beeing an industrial town, there's not much to see but it's great to visit the Salone Nautico. There's always on display the "Palinuro", the beautiful sailer ship of the Accademia Navale Italiana. Good tip? (0) Top Cities in Liguria Region |
