Although this area sees hundreds of thousands of foreigners yearly due to the Formula One race, Very few people understand and speak English. Although they are not outgoing with strangers, they are friendly, so if you remember a few key phrases in Italian you should be fine. Be prepared to repeat yourself several times and slowly if your Italian is not good. The public transportation system is great and runs on time, but buses often do not pick up anywhere near the same place as they dropped off for travel in the opposite direction. Be prepared and watch out for helpful, flirtatious grandfather types. I needed help finding my return bus stop and a nice old man (maybe 70 yrs) actually walked with me for several winding blocks to the stop - and then tried to slip me the tongue!! LOL What a great culture :)

A beautiful country with many different places to visit: from the Alps to the beaches, from the countryside to the cities. Full of history and nature, good food and wines from the nort to the south. One of my favorite? Venice: a magic place out of the time to spend a romantic trip.

Try and time your trip for the Italian GP - its relaxed, the weather is always great and you get to see Ferrarri racing in their home country. Be prepared to be blinded by red! You can also take a short train ride to Lago di Como for some picturesque scenery...
