If you visit in the summer (end of May through September-ish), be prepared for sweltering heat and high humidity and monstrous mosquitoes. Best travel months are April and May, and end of September and October, weather-wise. See the Duomo while you are there, but more importantly, take the elevator/steps to the roof and walk around on top. The views and architecture are breath-taking.
