Brindisi is known as the place where you can catch the ferry to Greece. However, it's definitely worth staying there for a day before you leave as it's a beautiful town with a great climate (it even gets chilly in the nighttime in the summer, which is a nice change from the killer heat elsewhere in Europe in the summertime). Food is cheap (beware the tourist trap though) and the gelato is to die for. I stayed at the only hostel in town, Carpe Diem, and I definitely recommend staying there.
