Alghero Sardinia Italy
A beautiful, traditional ancient port town. Although the island of Sardinia is a 'mountain food culture' due to the many conquests and forced relocation to the mountain tops. However, in Alghero, you can find excellent fresh fish dishes many still stemming from the Catalan Spanish influence from the 1300's-
TRY: Granseola alla bosana whole crabs stuffed with onions, boiled potatoes and extra virgin olive oil. Good tip? (0) Quite little but one of the most charming cities of Sardinia: from its oldest part inside the ancient fortress, full of locals and typical restaurants where you can have dinner sitting in front of the sea, to the newest "Barceloneta", where you can walk down to the port and to the farther lido, tasting a delicious icecream and having a glance at the numerous stands.
Great beaches, stunning sea and sun, sun, sun. Beautiful places for snorkeling, sailing and surfing.
Good tip? (0) Alghero is a great place! Awesome old town (crowded in summer). You will find a great beach out of town, maybe a 5 minutes drive, it's behind a small "hill" covered by pines. Take a boat trip to "la grotta di nettuno" (stalactite cave) - the boats will not go there on windy days!! Have a look at the hotel "Las Tronas", or if you can afford it spend a night there! It's a former Royal Residence. Good tip? (0) Recent Updates for Alghero
