Travel Tips for Transportation in Sicilia Region

Balestrate, Sicilia Region, Italy
Balestrate is a perfect place to stay and enjoy your holidays spending your time between splendid sandy beaches and amazing archaeological sites. From there you can visit the Greek temple of Segesta, the antique Roman town of Selinunte, the museum of Mozia, the medieval Erice and so on... I suggest you to book one week at VILLA SEA AND ARCHAEOLOGY, it's very nice, quiet, clean and also ...cheap !!! http://www.villaseasicily.iowners.net/

Palermo, Sicilia Region, Italy
Driving in Palermo, or all of Sicily for that matter, isn't nearly as scary as the guidebooks describe it. Driving through the country is one of the best ways to see it, and you will naturally have to start in one of the larger cities like Palermo or Catania. If you grew up driving in a city(particularly Boston), you'll recognize the fast-paced, aggressive, driving style. However, instead of getting a horn or the finger when you manage to budge your way into a traffic jam, the Italians don't react at all. Think of it! No road rage! Just don't break quickly or slow down and you'll soon find yourself in the 'dance'.

Taormina, Sicilia Region, Italy
Taormina Sicily is a Tourist trap..but a WONDERFUL trap. They put on a nice parade, a colorful parade everyday... but thats not where the funs at. The FUN is at the BEACH. Most of the beaches at Taoramina are topless...some are Bottomless too. There is ruins of a Norman castle out in the rocks past the general beach area.. it gives the area a fantastic appeal. The rugged hillside is STEEP.. be careful. There are no guardrails so be careful where you drive! A young man died close by there in 1977 (I worked the Search Air Rescue) by falling almost 200feet down a cliff. Other than that.. Food is GOOD. BUT - DO NOT EAT THE Ensalada De Mare.. Sea Salad!!! it has raw Octopus, Fish and Squid etc in it.. I had Diareahea for 4 days!!!! I thought I was going to die! Only eat COOKED seafood here! They are not that good about safe food handling.. sorry Siciliians.. but you arent. Girls are usually stuck up because they are from northern Europe... Hotels around here are expensive as Hell. Buon Appetite! Buon Giorno!

Motta Sant'Anastasia, Sicilia Region, Italy
If you want to travel into the 11th Century, go to Motta St. Anastasia. The Castle which is now a Catholic Church was built in the 8th Century. There is a road that goes undernead and around. The main road up through Motta takes you through the heart of the town. However, get off the main drag and get into the side streets of the town.. get into the real town of motta. I lived here for 2 1/2 years.. i know this town, i know its people. Go over to the Central Piazza, to Bar Centrale and ask for Carmello or Salvatore.. Get a Capuccino or Cafe, Tell them Jim (from the Navy back in 78 says hello). I was an old friend of the Chiramonte Family which has lived in that town for HUNDREDS of years.. Tony was my best friend. Maria Pia his sister was like my own sister. If you go up the main drag there is a Pizzeria, they put oak logs in the oven to cook the pizza.. it doesnt get any better than this! Great little town to visit...
