Few travelers make their way to Montalcino when visiting Italy, and those that do usually only make a brief stop to see the Pian Dell'orino. Other destinations such as Siena and Florence may be more interesting to visit in the area. Know something about Montalcino? Help us out by adding your favorite spots to this Montalcino travel guide.
Travel Tips from people who've been to Montalcino
This beautiful hilltop town in Toscana is famous for its wines (Brunello). There are ecoteria's throughout the town (wine tasting shops). Hit a few a little off the beaten path or farthest from the parking and you're likely to score a better deal on purchasing bottles. In addition to Brunello, there are lots of other nice wines to try. It's not like a tasting in Napa, though -- the shop owners give you just a small sip because some of these bottles are rather expensive.

If you can afford to drink the best of the local produce good luck to you.. At its best, as good a wine as you will find anywhere on Earth. Lovely place too in the middle of great Tuscan countryside. The golden colour of the fields in early June is stunning.

Buy some wine in the local winery and some cheese and crackers, and sit out and admire the view and take in the sunshine!!!  Enjoy!!
