Siena was a main rival to Florence in medieval times, but was conquered by Florence and lost its influence. Siena has many splendid sights though from the time they were a major trading power and one of the leading European cities, and is considered one of the best medieval city experiences in Europe.

People travel to Siena to see the car-free city center, with its red brick streets radiating out from the Piazza del Campo (site of the famous Palio). Climb the City Tower for a great view of Siena and the surrounding Tuscany landscape, and visit Siena's giant and grand striped Duomo, with the bright frescoes of the Piccolomini Library. You'll find lots of information and reviews on these and other places in this Siena travel guide.

One marvel of a city... spend loads of time in its sloping central square... its huge and lively and has a different atmosphere during the day and the night... check out its churches and restaurants too... there is great art and great Tuscan food to be found in Siena ...
