Travel Tips from people who've been to Jesolo
Jesolo is a lovely little beach town a ferry ride away from Venice. You can camp near the beach...affordably.

We pitched a tent and slept there for a few nights, spending our days roaming around Venice.  They have a nice pool in addition to the sandy beach, and there are clean, well-maintained showers and restrooms. This is NOT like camping in the US. It's more like living on a beach like a vagrant. ;) It is basically rows and rows of lots for motorhomes and tents in a grid pattern about a stones throw from the beach. I liked it, but it was not a private wilderness. ;)

The only downside is that it took about an hour to get to Venice each day (even though it wasn't very far). We'd take a bus to the ferry station, and then the ferry into Venice (or any of the islands).

Tip 1: Nobody will speak English to you...even if they know how. So, I recommend a good phrase book, or brushing up on your charades skills. (which I had great luck with.. those guys got a big kick out of my little demonstrations. hehe. ;)

Tip 2: Buy your bus tickets at the Tobacco shop. That's how's its done all over Italy.

Tip 3: The ferry pass is all day and includes unlimited passage to all the islands (murano, venice etc.) This is not obvious, and asking the ticket sellers questions is impossible.

Tip 4: Go to Murano, the birthplace of glass blowing. Very cool.

Tip 5: If you can afford a nice, cushy hotel right in Venice, do that. I imagine it would've been much less exhausting to roll out of bed and skip the hour to-and-fro Jesolo. -but if you love camping and beach bum life, Jesolo is a good time. OH! and they have a nice outdoor restaurant and little grocery store connected to the camping place.
