Lido di Iesolo Travel Guide

Looking for a less expensive place to stay in pricey Venice? Forget about it! BUT, if you are willing to take a vaporetto ride across the harbor, you will find many cheaper hotels in Lido di Iesolo. Other than cheaper hotels and restaurants, there is a nice beach that seems to stretch forever. People into shopping will enjoy trolling the seemingly endless oceanfront street where hotels line one side and shops line the other. If you are looking for a view of Venice from here, forget about it. The vaporetto ride to Venice DOES give you splendid panoramic views of the city as you round one of the outer islands that blocks to view from Lido di Iesolo and you head in the Grand Canal toward the main docking spot at St. Mark's Square. However, if you want to soak up the atmosphere of Venice the entire time you are in the area and at all hours of the day or night, forget about staying at Lido di Iesolo...while Venice is romantic and historic, Lido is quite cheesy and shabby modern. In terms of atmosphere and memorability, the two places could not be further apart. I stayed in Lido once because I was with friends on a budget; I stayed in Venice proper twice; next time I will let any friends on a budget stay in Lido; I will wander the streets and the canals of Venice and be happy to pay extra for the privilige. You might want to do the same! Oh, if you are there during the summer, you will find Lido less "fragrant" than Venice.
