About Veneto Region Planning a Trip to Veneto Region
Venice, Veneto Region, Italy Speak Italian or be ready to listen! These nice people mostly don't speak any other language, but they will do their best to give you an explanation in Italian. So, they will repeat the same thing even 7 times til you don't get it. So, patience, please;-) Good tip? (0) Venice, Veneto Region, Italy The fall is the best time to visit. The summer may be hot and smelly. Good tip? (0) Venice, Veneto Region, Italy If you're on a romantic trip with your lover, Venice is a lovely place all year round but the best time to go there is either between April and May or between September and October. Rain may spoil your visit between November and March where as the streets may be to hot to stroll along in the heat. Good tip? (0) Verona, Veneto Region, Italy The best Restaurant in the world. 15th century home outside of Verona. Groto de Georgio's. Open working fireplace on entry whe Georgio bakes bred on a stone. Everything is fresh and home made wheter its pasta, sausage, asparagus, truffles (oooh the white!) or even the ice cream. His wine list is perfection.
This is without doubt a experience of a life time.
Philip A. Felton Good tip? (0) Venice, Veneto Region, Italy Go there to say you have been there, but a day is way more than enough. Venice is totally over rated.
If you want to go down the canals, use the ferry, the gondolas, like everything else are way too over priced. Food is not priced so that they can charge the tourists more. St Marks Square is good, but five minutes and you've been there done that and is way too crowded. Don't bother with a map. Most of the lanes are unsignposted and you'll get lost with or without a map. Shopping expensive, so keep it to the window variety.
If you go with Bus About or Contiki, the accommodation is crap and way out of Venice. You have to take a bus or ferry to get to Venice itself. Stock up on toilet paper and food before you get to the accommodation because they charge like a wounded bull for it and the ablutions are poor. Security is crap, so keep all you valuable and passports with you at all times - although, I think they like to take your passport as security for any damage you may cause at the camp while you are there, which I thought was really dodgy. Apart from Nice, this was the worst place we stayed at. Good tip? (0) Verona, Veneto Region, Italy If you're backpacking around Northern Italy and want to stay in Verona, in my opinion, the best place to stay is the amazing Camping Castel San Pietro. It's located on a hillside very near to the city centre, and is surrounded by old city walls. There's a big terrace with a great panorama of the whole city. The places to raise the tent are situated on smaller tarraces full of trees and other plants (actually, you feel like in the middle of a forest :) ) The toilets and showers are ok.
And - the prices are really low (compared to, for example, campings around Venice). I payed 19,5 Euro for 2 people with a tent :)
Here's the link: http://www.campingcastelsanpietro.com/ Good tip? (0) Venice, Veneto Region, Italy Use the internet for travelling and transportation planning in and around Venice. Plan your trips from and to the airport in advance, It's cheaper and you save time. Also visits of museums and landmarks should be booked in advance or you will stand long queues. Good tip? (0) Venice, Veneto Region, Italy Birraria La Corte Telephone: 041 275 0570. Website: www.birrarialacorte.it . Best Restaurant in the city :) Great fresh food, great staff and very reasonable prices! In the summer it has tables outside as well as inside. Its filled with locals as well as tourists and gets pretty busy in the evenings. Good tip? (0) Verona, Veneto Region, Italy Verona is absolutely charming and romantic... I especially loved its architecture and the Roman arena... Juliet's house is also nice... taking a photo on her balcony is obligatory! :-) Good tip? (0) Verona, Veneto Region, Italy Visit the Piaza outside the Arena of Verona for photographs with/within some of the scenography of earlier opera performances given in the Arena. Good tip? (0) Verona, Veneto Region, Italy Visit the Piaza outside the Arena of Verona for some pictures with/within scenography from older opera performances. Good tip? (0) Verona, Veneto Region, Italy Gorgeous city. Wonderful shopping opportunities - many high-end botiques. Stop by "Juliet's balcony" for a fun photo op but expect large crowds. Lovely areas for people watching. Good tip? (0) Venice, Veneto Region, Italy Wander off from the crowds. You can't get lost - you're on an island! The back streets are quite and picturesque. Good tip? (0) Venice, Veneto Region, Italy Dont travel with a group in venice!!!
- after you diembarked from your opereta boat, go alone and dont stick with the group. the group tours show san marco and realto- and stick 3 hours to unesseary explanations. venice is small and easy to get around- go always by foot and alone- so you will reach all the shops. by the way- there is a small market on the beach right after san marco Good tip? (+3) Caorle, Veneto Region, Italy Hmmm... are you German? Brittish? NO? well, Caorle is.... quite a place out there, in the middle of nowhere. Unlike the stereotypical idea, the truth is that the place is a little town where locals work their ass of in the summer season... the beach is crowded of umbrellas standing on a row, in a perfect, straight line. There is no space for your own towel...
Basically, its just a little beachtown that is trying to make money out of foreign (mainly german and british) tourists in the summer months. YOU NEED A CAR, because there is not much to do in the village.... with a car you can get to venice and other cities, which you shouldnt miss if you are in this part of italy.
Seriously... there is not much to see or do... if you wanna party, choose Jesolo instead of Caorle... if you go for the beach, go further south where the water is clear.... or why not to Croatia, same sea, but less people and cheaper...
If you still go... enjoy! Good tip? (+2) Venice, Veneto Region, Italy A map is pretty much useless in Venice as not much is labeled. Instead, use the arrow signs that point you towards major sites to navigate. Good tip? (+2) Venice, Veneto Region, Italy When in Venice, dodge any restaurant that caters 'tourist menus'...they are overly expensive and not worth the money. Instead dare to get lost in the many small alleyways throughout the city and dine where the locals dine.
...and make sure you buy an ice cream cone when in Venice. The Italian 'gelatti' is quite delicious indeed ! Good tip? (+1) Venice, Veneto Region, Italy Will go back again just for the ice-creams, the Gondolas are a rip off so beware, or do a deal first. The shops streets are fasinating , as is the history of the buildings.
Avoid drinking in St Marks square the'll charge you 2 arms 2 legs for a coke, find an ice-cream booth they sell cold drinks also keep loose change for the loo's.
The night life is romantic and there's live music twinkling lights in St Marks square, try and go in the local August holidays it's busy but worth it, Even thunder storm;s are romantic at night. Good tip? (+1) Top Cities in Veneto Region |
