Jamaica Travel Guide

I did not have a great experience in Jamaica.  I practically starved the whole time I was there (thank God for snacks; which were expensive).  This was however due to me not planning my own trip but leaving someone else to do it.  I think the main reason it was so terrible is because of where I stayed which was pretty isolated.  Jamaicans love pepper so naturally I could not eat the food as I have no tolerance for pepper.  I managed to find a Burger King but they did not cook the meat properly plus people kept on finding stuff in their food.  Most of the locals in the shops were very mean and not very co-operative plus they did not speak proper English so my husband had a hard time understanding them.  At the airport they slashed my husband suitcase and stole his boxer briefs.  I think that Jamaica is expensive as well, not only with food but with other items as well as we had to pay US$80.00 for a new suitcase that was a no name brand.  On our way to the villa we got pulled over by the police and they accepted a bribe for a trumped up charge.  We also ran into a calvary of police with some long guns, wearing bullet proof vests who wanted to search our van for drugs.  Dont' talk about how Jamaicans drives...OMG :-(. It was a beautiful place though with many natural wonders.  If I do go back again it would have to be at an all-inclusive resort.

I stayed at Sandals in Ochos Rios. Its a beautiful hotel. the people are extremely nice. The hotel can book excursions for you and you can save money this way. Fly into Montego Bay and you have to take a 3 hr bus ride to get to Ochos Rios but it is worth it. If you want to spend a bit more you can get a plane to fly you to the hotel. Snorkeling and scuba isn't the best here due to the barrier reefs protecting the land. So there aren't a lot of fish but you can see a plane that landed in the ocean on purpose during the making of a movie.

If you choose to stay in a resort in Jamaica, the best choice is Riu Ocho Rios! I had a blast there and i have been to many places in the Caribbean. Jamaica was the best out of all of them. Food isn't the best but over all vacation experience is!
