Long Bay is an incredible beach with basic tourist infrastructure not very far from Porto Antonio. Much better to stay there for the more independent traveler than Porto Antonio. In general this area of Jamaica is a lot less tourist overrun and more laid back

Eat at "Fishermans Place". The cook called "Bunny" (as in Eminem) si awesome, his food too and it's worth what you pay for it. Which is not much, anyway. Red Stripe's always chilled too ...
