Takayama's old town has been beautifully preserved, with many buildings and whole streets of houses dating from the Edo Period (1600-1868), when the city thrived as a wealthy town of merchants.

Travel Tips for Osaka

Osaka, Chūbu Region, Japan
Get a work visa for Korea! I have it memorized as we did the trip 5 times! Go to Namba station and walk 6 blocks to the Korean embassy. Have noodles while you wait! E-2 visas are crazy. Check your school, grades, DNA, etc.

This is a really fun town to get lost in and just wander the streets. Keep in mind that 4 is the Japanese version of 13 and a lot of hotels don't have a room 4. (so if you are booking for a group rooms 1-5 are only 4 rooms, often.)

I used to live here. If you go there make sure you go during the festival seasons. Small beautiful town with lots of Festival action. The best are the hand held firework festivals. All other major cities do modern day fireworks but Takayama does special hand held ones, which look awesome!

The people of Osaka speak Kansai-ben, or Kansai dialect of Japanese. While you are there, don't hesitate to pick up a few phrases!

Impress the locals by uttering their greeting in natve dialect: Phonetically it is "Mow-ka-ti-ma-ka ?" The answer: "bochi-bochi de na." Osaka-ites tend to be more open than their northern counterparts in Tokyo - feel free to strike up a converstaion with anyone.

Be sure to check out Osaka Castle while you're here, or the very, very large outdoor market. The Korean embassy is located here as well, if you're working on getting a visa.
