Kyoto, Kansai Region, Japan
buy the day passes for the buses, they are easy to use, cheap and get you everywhere you need to go. You can pick these up at the bus station that is at the shinkensen station
Tokyo, Kantō Region, Japan
A taxi from Narita airport into the heart of Tokyo will cost your over $200 USD!  Try the airport bus for $10 or $20 to a major hotel and then using a cab or subway for the remainder of the journey.
Tokyo, Kantō Region, Japan
take the subway. cabbies don't know the whole city and rarely more that just the few touristy areas.
Shinjiku, Tōhoku Region, Japan
Make sure you have money in shinjiku . there will be lots of things you want to buy and they all add up. its also fairly hard to spot out the atms over there. its not the oriential style city, this is a big brands fashion type city. :)take a camera if you wanna get a few snaps of the great atmosphere or the famous crossing where tokyo drift was filmed. transportation is great in japan squishy but great. every 3 or so minutes theres usually a train or bus to take you in the right direction. the maps can get a little confusing though.
Kyoto, Kansai Region, Japan
If you like it hot, then go to Kyoto in summer! It's incredible! But anyway, the best way to come along in Kyoto is by bike. It's really comfy and you can go everywhere this way. You can rent it in most of the hostels there. And: don't forget to stay in a hostel with tatami.! It's so much fun to feel like the japanese felt before a short time ago...
Tokyo, Kantō Region, Japan
Safe city no need to worry
Tokyo, Kantō Region, Japan
Be sure not to confuse trains. Many Japanese know English and are usually very kind to foreigners when in need of finding out what train to get on next. It is always a good idea if you are interested in learning Japanese to learn phrases such as "Where is the train station?" or "What time does the train depart?".
Tokyo, Kantō Region, Japan
A surprising city, but nothing to comapre with the rest of Japan
Tokyo, Kantō Region, Japan
ALWAYS get to the train systems before 6 am. That's when rush hour is and it will be very awkward. ALWAYS remember that they don't take cash from the hand but in a small dish they give to you. Try to stick to cash only, there are virtually no stores or restaurants that take credit cards. Try to stay in a Ryoko-Inn. You'll get an authentic feel to Japan's ways better. PACK LIGHT CLOTHING! It's 90% humidity most of the time and you want something that can breath..
Tokyo, Kantō Region, Japan
Walk with the "flow of traffic" or people will look at you weird! Their right is your left!
