Small port city mostly used by Russian, Japanese, and Korean (ROK/DPRK) merchant sailors. I had a great time here. Check out the bar complex Pirates.

Walk along Kamogawa (Kamo River)Kamogawa stretches for about 30km and throughout Kyoto there are pathways so you can walk along the river. In the afternoon there's usually lots of couples sitting on the sides of Kamogawa, just under the terraces of Ponto-cho. (Notice the exact distance between every couple!) Having a meal on one of the terraces overlooking the river is highly recommended on a warm summer's night! There are many nice places here - specially if you feel like trying sushi like it should be. If you're only after coffee, Starbucks got a very nice terrace.. and its free!

OKARU: OKONOMIYAKI HEAVEN IS IN NARAOkonomiyaki is a type of 2 layered pancake with cabbage and any filling you can think of. It is a treat for the one looking for good japanese food! Okaru is one highly recommended if you're in Nara. The food is prepared at your table, and cooked on your table! All ingredients are brought to the table in bowls and then mixed in front of you and cooked on the hotplates so watch your hands! It is VERY hot. Makes the ice-cold beer go down like a treat. Fun. Friendly staff. And YUMMY! Plus they got English menus... (Japan general tip)-- to sample Japanese food cheaply, check out the food levels (often the basement) of department stores before they close. In Beppu, head straight down the steet from Beppueki to Tokiwa.
