The port city of Al Aqabah (Aqaba) is Jordan's access to the water.   Located on the Red Sea's Gulf of Aqaba, it is also close to the Israeli, Egyptian, and Saudi Arabian borders, with the Israeli city of Eilat only a couple miles away.   Aqaba also offers shore dives to the warm water coastal reefs.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Al 'Aqabah
If you are looking for a change in meals, check out the "China" restaurant in Aqaba for delicious Chinese food. It is a little hard to find but use the post office as a reference and then look for a large blue awning across the street called "Aqaba Gallery". Immediately to the left of it is a small red awning with the China restaurant logo. Take the staircase up a few flights to the restaurant. Great meat and vegetarian options and full bar.

Spend one evening at the Kempinski Resort near the waterfront. It is beautiful and you can grab a table on their patio for a delicious cocktail. Expect to spend JD 8-10 per drink but it is well worth it!

Beautiful, balmy evenings are what you would expect in Aqaba.  The Gulf of Aqaba is very nice. In less than 50 kms you can cross 4 countries: Egypt, Israel, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. The Jodan border in the Gulf of Aqaba is 35 kms. From Aqaba you can see Isreal.
