07773Almaty is one of the most fun cities to visit in the world - with the beautiful Tian-Shan mountains to the south and the steppe to the north. Be sure and eat at Pirosmani and Inara for great Caucasian food, and of course, at the Korean restaurant in the hotel Atakent, you cannot beat the authentic Boshintang (dog soup). Yum!

003If you are visiting Almaty don't miss an opportunity to see a beautiful scenery from Koktobe which is the closest mount to the city. If you have some 3-4 hours it is advisable to go there in early evening and have a dinner there, in this case you will have a chance to see the city both in daylight and in night.

04644Attention - budget at least 3 times more than any current travel guide advises. Lodging's not cheap and neither are the food or every day sundry items. Drive out of the city towards the mountains. You'll see Medeo - skating circuit and a few skiing resorts. Good restaurants on the way.
