Travel Tips from people who've been to Mombasa
There are very few hostels in the Mobassa region with most of them being camp grounds a good long way from the city. The best compromise that I could find was the Nirvana hostel in Nylai. Its in a nice neighbourhood 5 minutes walk from the beach where you can get a nice beverage at the resort bars. There are no facilities close by but its a very short and cheap microbus ride to the shops or to the old town. It was recommended to us by the taxi drivers at the airport so they know where it is and it was nice quiet place. Don't look for a party there but there are blue balled monkeys around and the owner is nice english girl. Good tip? (0) FOR DIVING or BOAT TRIP Not far away from there is Mombasa and many little fisherman villages, like Shimoni...The beach and landscape are awesome. And its easy to go into the village and make some "friends" :) specially childrens... For divers or snorkellers I recomend: Liquid Marine. Is a small Diving Center, but the best. And the Crew its very cool and responsable... You will spend some nice time there... Kisses www.liquidmarine.net -Shimoni- Good tip?
