When you want to go to shimoni for snorkling or diving:
don't stay on the mainland. the hostal in the jungle might seem interesting but it is quite shabby. you can take a lift with a boat to Wasini island and stay in the superb Mpunguti lodge 12euro's a night including food. It is very quiet and secluded there, the only visitors are the people that booked a snorkling daytrip in their megahotels in Mombasa and have there lunch at the lodge.
