Make an effort to get to know the locals. If you stay at a resort hotel, they will convince you the 'beach boys' are there to rup you off. They're not. They are just trying to make a living. If you get to know them, they will provide you with the most interesting tours you can do, trips into the local villages, guided tours at low tide of the coral gardens, all for a small tips. Making local friends goes a long way.

If you are planning to visit the city centre, go as part of a guided tour group or blend in as a local. There's not a great deal to see, but it is an experience. Some of the woodworking cooperatives produce some spectacular carved items.

To enjoy Mombasa, one needs to visit the crisp white sand beaches and enjoy it with a drink of the local Madafu;

There are alot of activities that one can really enjoy doing e.g. Deep sea fishing of vibrant beautiful fishes, visiting the Fort Jesus, Gedi Ruins etc.
