Lamu, Coastal Kenya, Kenya
Lamu is the land that time forgot, and definitely a place to be "off the grid." However, those seeking the calm coastal life be warned: you cannot arrive without being approached by a throng of "guides" offering their services, which can be annoying to those wanting to be left alone. Frankly you just have to find one that you feel comfortable with and accept their offer because you can't do anything in Lamu without a guide. They will become your best friends, and are indispensible in figuring out how things work in Lamu. They will organise day trips, dhow boat rides, tours of historic ruins, snorkelling/diving, and partying in local hotels (even if they are not permitted to enter the premises)... they will even leave you alone when instructed to do so. Bring a sarong, and a hat, and try to rent a house with a rooftop terrace / bedroom.
Mombasa, Coastal Kenya, Kenya
stay at the White Sands Beach Resort..fantastic place..
Nakuru, Rift Valley Region, Kenya
the only place to see is the lake with thousands of flamingos and wild buffaloes in the mud..apart from that there is nothing to see over there..
Naivasha, Rift Valley Region, Kenya
when in naivasha, head for the lake, it's full of flamingos! So rent a boat and go look to those fascinaing creatures
Nairobi, Nairobi Area, Kenya
A very good restaurant in Nairobi is Javas Restaurant. It's not too expensive and the ones missing Hamburgers and French Frieses Or the ones who just want a change should go there. Best and cheapest way to travel through Nairobi are Matatus but you have to know which number you need and how much it should cost else you could be cheated. Something you need to have seen is the Maasai Market on tuesday or the market on saturday. Bargaining is a must but one can make a lot of friends.
Mombasa, Coastal Kenya, Kenya
Wonderfull Safari location!
Nairobi, Nairobi Area, Kenya
Mombasa to Nairobi by night train was a very pleasing event. Have an interesting orient express feeling. Do not expect much comfort tho, as the track is somewhat old and many stops for the local wildlife.
Nairobi, Nairobi Area, Kenya
There is a line flight from Nairobi airport into a jungle strip in the Amboseli national parc. The flight is executed in a genuine DC3 (dual engined civil prop plane). One of the most beautiful flights i ever had.
Malindi, Coastal Kenya, Kenya
Malindi is a beautiful place, although it's better not to hang around at night. I stayed at DRIFTWOOD Hotel at the beach near the most beautiful marinepark I ever seen. So take those goggles with you!!! Go on a walk to the sandbank in front of the coast and see the most amazing starfish you ever seen... looks like plastic but isn't. Do not buy any shells as souvenier, it's illegal to take stuff from the sea and it keeps the Marine National Park to stay in good condition!! I went there on my own, walked along the beach for 5 days. It's save and it's fun... if your into a chat with some local guys. Do not go out at night!! If you go to Malindi you defintly need to by a 'kikoy' (more known as 'sarong') there beautiful and top quality!
Lamu, Coastal Kenya, Kenya
Lamu is absolutly an amazing little nice wild place! You can get there practicly only by a small plane landing in a short dirty road than sail to the village that's over the sea. If you like the paces where there is no energy, no fridges, no ice, no hospital, ho hotels, NO CARS, no turists, nothing but old walls and nature with some mens than you'll simply LOVE it! What to do there?...nothing but walk around and enjoy the absence of modern life... I've been there my first time when I was 12 with my grandpa and we had absolutly no problems so I beleave it's a safe place where to go. Yust logically respect their traditions. The sea is not nice to swim. The food is fine. Pay atteantion to the water you drink. To sleep look for local accomodations. I've been in the Lamu Hause...I really suggest it! It's WONDERFUL!
