Kyrgyzstan Climate

The climate in the country is influenced by variations in the terrain and its location in the middle of a vast continent, far from any oceans.

The average summer temperature in the Fergana Valley is around 28°C , but can be as high as over 40°C .   In the mountains, the temperature in the summer can be below freezing.   In winter, the warmest region is the southwest lowlands where the temperature is about -4°C , whereas the mountains and mountain valleys often register temperatures of -30°C or lower.

Precipitation also varies from region to region, with rainfall of over 200 cm in the mountainous regions in the southwest, and little rain in the north-east near Ysyk-Kol.

Travel Tips for Kyrgyzstan Climate

Altynarasan, Kyrgyzstan
Altynarasan is an excellent place for a rest after days of mountaineering with its hot water springs. Be warned not to stay too long in the strong and hot water or you may feel sick after a quarter of an hour. Down the valley there is a hot spring up on a cliff wall and there is an artificial bowl just big enough for two person under the spring. It's great to take a bath there in the open and the view with the stream and the pine trees ispicturesque. Altynarasan can be accessed from Karakol by jeep in good weather on horseback or by foot. The best is to pack your tent, hire a guide in Karakol and visit all the beautiful valleys South of Karakol. Good quality fresh food can be bought at Karakol market. Also keep in mind that you basically cannot buy trekking equippment in Karakol. If you need gas canisters you should get it in advance in Bishkek.
Good tip?
