Maseru, Lesotho
A really nice little African city. Easy to drive through but be aware of when to yeild. It's a very poor country. People will help you by looking after your car to make sure nothing happens to it while you are away. It is customary to tip for this as it helps them out financially. The market is worth a small look, but be aware that it's really the same products on most if not all stalls. money is easily accessed and withdrawn, just visit Nedbank or First National Bank for this. Taxis are readily available but their driving is bad and are very noisy throght honking to gather customers. A nice little fast food chicken restaurant is right next to the market.

Maseru, Lesotho
If you are travelling alone or as a couple or threesome don't stop anywhere in this town. It is dangerous if you are a "white" man. You could be targeted and followed and high-jacked. If you are in a big group, still be cacious and only stop here if you REALLY have to. Rather stop in the smaller villages. Maseru is not a safe place. The rural areas , the people work the land and work hard, they are loving and friendly. Please don't give sweets to the kids. Rather take old clothes with you on the trip and hand these out, or tinned foods. Basutu people have a hard life, but they are amazing people. They will capture your heart if you allow them to. Stick to the rural areas, and enjoy. If you go in winter, expect to see a lot of snow, and maybe even plan an extra day incase you can't get through to your destination due to heavy snowfalls. Asmatics - don't forget your pump. The air is very thin.

Mount Moorosi, Lesotho
Mount Moorosi is a great little place to stay in the south east of Lesotho. Its not far from the main roads so depending on weather and time of year you probably don't even need a 4x4. Accommodation is in recently built thatched rondawels/huts with on suite bathrooms (gas heated hot water). There is no electricity here. Meals are provided on request at the little dining room and the locals who run it are full of info on what to do during the day like pony trekking and hiking etc. they are affiliated to and can be booked through Malealea Lodge www.malealea.com
