Definitely recommend travelling to Libya in spring. Have been there twice and my summer vacation was a nightmare due to flies and various other pests - impossible to get rid off. Not a very tourist oriented country (all the signs are in Arabic script), so it is crucial to have a guide. On the other hand, people are very friendly and show admirable hospitality even when it is way above their means and earnings.

I would suggest to stay in Tripoli in the 4 Star "Four Seasons 2". It is nice located with Western Standards for a reasonable price.
For dinner you already find good restaurants. I would suggest to go to the Restaurant "Tripoli" directly at the harbor. I really recommend the fish market (In the east of Tripoli). To go there you need to take cab.

I couldn't quite believe this place at first. The souq in the old medina is unlike any other in the Arabic speaking world. You get NO hassle at all. Wander around, have a chat with some locals, walk into a few shops. It's a thoroughly relaxing experience after places like Egypt and Morocco!

There's not a lot to say about the town itself, but its an ideal base to explore Leptis Magna (a few kilometers away). Leptis is simply stunning, no Roman site I have seen can match it in terms of scale. Definitely recommended.

Never go there in the evening between 7 and 11 pm. The street is crowded with cars and it will take you ours to pass it.
There is a nice juice place called "Havanna Juice".
