The tiny Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (the world’s only Grand Duchy and a sovereign state since 1815) is notable for the number of beautiful landscapes that get crammed into its small space. This includes the Petite Suisse Luxembourgeoise which is an area in Eastern Luxembourg that translates into “Mini Switzerland”. Romantic forests, dazzling waterfalls and unusual rock formations make this a beautiful nature area to hike in.

The city of Luxembourg also has an impressive setting, situated atop a plateau that is accessed by many bridges. The Chemin de la Corniche is a pedestrian pathway that has been called “Europe’s most beautiful balcony” due to the outstanding views of the lower town and river valleys.

You can also tour Vianden Castle, built in the 11th century, but restored to how it looked in the late 1700s complete with furniture and tapestries. Also explore the Vallee de la Sure, an attractive river valley containing many pretty small towns and villages.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Luxembourg
Capital city of Luxembourg and one of the 3 capitals of the European Union. Even though it's fairly small (only about 80,000 people live there), it has a lot to offer: culture (European capital of culture in 1995 and again in 2007 together with Sibiu in Romania) with concerts, theatre, etc..., architecture ( palace of the royal family with House of Deputies,...), parks, a countless amount of restaurants for every taste bars, numourous clubs with all styles of music. The setting is quite interesting: it is more or less divided in two, separated by a valley and is called the Gilbraltar of the north, with remains of the old fortress. Once a year for 3 weeks in August/September, a big event takes place which is famous among young and old in Luxembourg and neighbouring countries: our "Schueberfouer" (www.fouer.lu), which was organized for the first time back in 1340 by Jean the Blind (talking of tradition)! But the main event in Luxembourg is and probably always will be our Grand Duke's birthday which is held on the 23rd of june with parties and fireworks all over Luxembourg on the 22nd, with huge crowds gathering in Luxembourg City partying all evening and all night long until the morning hours of June 23rd, the day the military Parade takes place Come and visit Luxembourg. It's small but you won't be disappointed. served by Luxair, KLM, Swiss, Austrian, SAS, VLM, British Airways and TAP easily rechable from Paris by train (TGV 2h10) and Brussels (2.5-3h every hour, about 15 trains a day) Francfort-Hahn, the lowcost airport of Ryanair is about 2 hours away by shuttlebus (www.flibco.com)
