Luxembourg People & Culture
Luxembourg, Luxembourg a little bit dark and strange people. Good tip? (0) Luxembourg, Luxembourg Capital city of Luxembourg and one of the 3 capitals of the European Union. Even though it's fairly small (only about 80,000 people live there), it has a lot to offer: culture (European capital of culture in 1995 and again in 2007 together with Sibiu in Romania) with concerts, theatre, etc..., architecture ( palace of the royal family with House of Deputies,...), parks, a countless amount of restaurants for every taste bars, numourous clubs with all styles of music.
The setting is quite interesting: it is more or less divided in two, separated by a valley and is called the Gilbraltar of the north, with remains of the old fortress.
Once a year for 3 weeks in August/September, a big event takes place which is famous among young and old in Luxembourg and neighbouring countries: our "Schueberfouer" ( www.fouer.lu ), which was organized for the first time back in 1340 by Jean the Blind (talking of tradition)!
But the main event in Luxembourg is and probably always will be our Grand Duke's birthday which is held on the 23rd of june with parties and fireworks all over Luxembourg on the 22nd, with huge crowds gathering in Luxembourg City partying all evening and all night long until the morning hours of June 23rd, the day the military Parade takes place
Come and visit Luxembourg. It's small but you won't be disappointed.

(0) Luxembourg, Luxembourg Most locals speak English are familiar with, but it is always a good show of character to learn some basic phrases in the native vernacular. A courteous "thank you" goes a long way. I have found many natives to be equally friendly if you show the same compassion and respect for their culture. The common misconception about "Americans" is that people are arrogant. Help to discourage this misconception by showing respect for other cultures. However, as in any unfamiliar locations, be aware of your personal belongings. Crowded streets are safe bets for pick pockets. Always check for your belongings every few minutes to make sure your IDs (passports) and money are always secure. Good tip? (0) Luxembourg, Luxembourg Place d'Armes a.k.a “Parlour of the City” is the center of the city and meeting point for everyone. Here can be found tons of cafes, shops and of course tourists. According the plans of Sebastian van Noyen from Utrecht it became true in 1671 when Jean Charles de Landas had been ruler. And why to pay people for decorating when French Army should do that as witty Louis XIV got this idea. The French Army paved the square and planted trees that the square should be a great place for parades and other cultural events. Nowadays there is a street animation all the summer and a lot of other cultural actions around ... Good tip? (0) Luxembourg, Luxembourg Great blend of cultures from all her larger neighbors, Luxembourg is the capital of the like-named country. A walk on the casements allows for a grand view of the city, plus the addition of history and exercise for free. Good tip? Francfort-Hahn, the lowcost airport of Ryanair is about 2 hours away by shuttlebus ( www.flibco.com ) Good tip? (0) Luxembourg Luxembourg in general is a very boring country. But it does have beautiful scenery. If you ever decide to go, should check out Vianden on the Nut Market day (only once a year in Fall). The city becomes very lively with travelers, music, alcohol and nuts! nuts cakes, nuts wine, nuts burger,...etc., and don't miss out the chairlift! the view seen from it is GORGEOUS! I only took one-way up then walked back from the hill to the castle. It was like 30 mins walk. not bad, just make sure you wear a pair of comfortable shoes. If it's the Nut Market day, you can take a local train from Luxembourg Gare Centrale (35 mins I think) to Ettelbruck then there will have free shuttle bus to take you to Vianden. the bus ride was about 30-45 mins. Good tip? (0) Luxembourg, Luxembourg If you plan to stay for longer time bring witch you bike - it is much faster to travel by bike Good tip? (0) Asselborn, Luxembourg Hotel "Moulin d'Asselborn" : really comfy but nevertheless sort of luxourios. In an old watermill, very good for eating fresh fish, nicely situated in a valley next to a little river, grassy fields and forests. A real little hideaway. Good tip? (0) Luxembourg, Luxembourg my place of birth. used to be quiet ltle city now growing at an outragous pace Good tip? (0) Kirchberg, Luxembourg Kirchberg is the "hub" of Luxembourg for shopping and dining in Auchan, Movies at Utopolis and the location of most of the European Government Agencies. Good tip?
