Oh, Tamatave! My wonderful home for two sweltering years. Tamatave has the most lovely, laid-back people out there. There's the beach (ocean aka ranomasina, but some call it the plage), where you can sit with your friends, end the day with some questionably cooked brochettes (probably perfectly done), drink a THB and watch the moon rise over the Indian Ocean. Of course, there's a lot of junk to put up with too. Like most large cities, it has it's problems with garbage. But Tamatave is amazing- I hope you'll love it as much as I did. And please, please, learn to say "hello," "goodbye," "thank you" and the usual pleasantries in Malagasy (manakory, veloma and misoatra respectively), the people there deserve more respect than every tourist speaking french to them. Foods: brochettes, soupe chinoise, ravitoto au coco, voanjobory au coco, any of the fish and street food- bonbon coco, sambos- do it up!
