Lilongwe is Malawi's capital, but not the country's largest city. The town is generally very spread out, and is divided into two parts -- Old Town (to the South) and New Town (to the North). Old Town is home to craft stalls, the main market, and cafes, while New Town is home to most of the government buildings, diplomatic missions, and more.

  03422A good restaurant in Area 2 is Gazeebo, next to the mosque (inside Area 2, not the mosque on the main road). Their food is very good, especially the pizzas, samoosas and toasts, the service very friendly, the restaurant clean and there is a nice view on the mosque. Good tip? (0) 03422In Area 2 you can find the 'Capital Bakery', on the corner of the road on the back of the mosque (the mosque inside Area 2, not the one on the main road). You can recognize the building by it's green facade. They have delicious biscuits, donuts, pies and bread. Good tip? (0)  0268This is the only city we were robbed in. You MUST be careful of touts or people that just hang around the combi rinks and bombard you as you are exiting. Many will surround you and try to distract you while their cohorts slice open or unzip your bag: Good tip? (0)
