Malaysia has a tropical climate as it is fairly close to the equator. For most parts of the country, it is generally hot and humid throughout the year, with day time temperature being as high as 32 to 34 degrees celcius, and night time temperature around 22 to 24 degrees. In the hills and highlands (such as Genting and Cameron Highlands), the temperature is cooler throughout the day.
Both the east and west coasts of the Malaysian Peninsula, as well as Sabah and Sarawak are hit by monsoons, which can bring in heavy downpours. On the west coast, the monsoon season is from about September to December with winds and rain coming from the south-west. In the east (including Sabah and Sarawak), the north-east monsoon comes in from the South China Seas, from about October to February.
