Many forms of sports are found on land and at sea. Along the beaches and on resort islands on both the peninsula and in Eastern Malaysia, swimming, scuba-diving, wind-surfing and water skiing are obviously popular. However, one should always be careful because many areas such as the sea off the South China Sea has very strong currents.
On land, golf courses can be found everywhere, in the city and in the countryside. On the peninsula alone, there are at least 50 golf clubs. Soccer, badminton, tennis and squash are also favourite sports for many people, and Malaysia has won quite a few prizes in international badminton competitions.
In rural areas, kit-flying is a favourite past-time especially along the east coast of the peninsula, where many adults and children fly their colourful home-made kites in the shape of the moon, birds and so on. Top-spinning is also a favourite game; with the tops made from wood and other materials and played from the fields.
