ADD TO LISTSepilok is one of the few places in the world to see wild Orang Utans in the forest. Off the beaten track it is still a very popular stop for travellers in Sabah. Few things to see and do in Sandakan on the way to Sepilok. Combine sepilok with Turtle islands or Kinabatangan river. Many travel agents can arrange tours starting in Sandakan (www.geckogo.com/Guide/Malaysia/Sabah-Region/Sandakan/) or Kota Kinabalu (www.geckogo.com/Guide/Malaysia/Sabah-Region/Kota-Kinabalu/).

Travel Tips from people who've been to Sepilok
At the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, it is worthwhile to plan to go see the apes on a weekday, early in the morning. My visit was in the early to mid afternoon and there was a big crowd of people there. I'm sure the atmosphere is much different with fewer people around. The crowd of people seemed to keep the orangutans at a distance, so I think the experience might be better on a slow day
At the actual Sepilok Orangutan Rehab Centre there are two feedings per day. You never know how many Orangutans will show up - zero, one, two, twenty. Be sure to arrive 20-30 minutes early at the feeding platform before the crowds, as the Orangutans (and Macaque monkeys) sometimes arrive early!
Sepilok Nature Resort is a fantastic place to stay while visiting the Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. The Nature Resort was much better than the Sepilok Jungle Resort located across the road.
